If you skip breakfast, cortisol rises to bring your blood sugar back up — keeping you stuck in “stress mode.” 

A balanced meal (especially breakfast) with protein and healthy fats tells your body it’s safe to relax.

Skipping lunch or dinner can do the same. It can create that annoying, wired but tired feeling you sometimes get when it's time for bed.

When you are under constant stress, your adrenals When you are under constant stress, your adrenals contiuously pump out cortisol. Cortisol then will cause TSH, the signaling hormone, to decrease. 

High cortisol will also drive up Reverse T3 (rT3), a marker doctor's don't typically test. High rT3 basically puts the brakes on the conversion from T4 (the inactive hormone) to T3 (the active hormone).

This pattern will worsen your hypothyroid symptoms but won't necessarily be reflected in your labs that your doctor checks (TSH & T4). 

Running a Free T3 and rT3 is the only way to see this pattern in labs. Even then, it's likely your doctor won't catch it unless they are very well-versed in thyroid physiology and understand how conversion patterns reflect underlying stress.
